USPS Sick Leave Accrual: Full-Time & Part-Time Rules

USPS sick leave rules are published in ELM 513. The basic accrual formula differs for full-time and part-time employees.

Full-time employees

ELM 513 states full-time employees accrue 4 hours for each full biweekly pay period, equivalent to 104 hours in a 26-period leave year.

Part-time employees

The ELM states part-time employees earn 1 hour for each unit of 20 hours in pay status, up to 104 hours in a 26-period leave year.

Unused sick leave accumulates

USPS states earned and unused sick leave accumulates without limitation, subject to applicable employment and retirement rules.
